Should a podiatrist check my children's feet?

The most compelling reason to take your child to see a podiatrist is that when kids are young and their bones are still developing, conservative methods are often very successful in permanently correcting any deformities. Treating problems early can prevent the need for surgical corrections later, and can even potentially spare your child from a lifetime of persistent foot problems.

Kids do generally grow out of some conditions. Flat feet and bowed legs, for example, usually disappear by age 3 or 4. However, if your child is complaining of pain or cramping in arches, heels, knees, or hips, or you notice rolling ankles or other issues, you should have your child evaluated, especially if there is a family history of foot problems.

Regular visits to the podiatrist allow your child to be monitored by a trained professional who understands the normal stages of foot and limb development and can check for any asymmetry, delays in progression, or abnormalities. Dr. Michael Stein and Dr. Zeindelin Ahmad are here to provide the highest quality podiatric care for your children’s feet. Call (510) 483-3390 for our San Leandro office, (925) 425-9684 for our Pleasanton location, or (408) 356-6767 for Los Gatos, CA.
