Integra LifeSciences Holdings Corporation is introducing the Integra IPP-ON PIP Fusion System designed to fix proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint arthrodesis.  This system is designed to be used in the lesser toes for rigid or semi-rigid hammertoe deformity, correction of failed arthroplasty or arthrodesis, and second toe shortening.  Integra LifeSciences system has received 510(k) clearance from the FDA.  The Integra IPP-ON PIP Fusion System involves a one-piece stainless steel interphalangeal fusion device which is available in more than one size. “Integra IPP-ON PIP Fusion System offers surgeons a straightforward, one-piece alternative to hammertoe fixation.  Unlike some projects, our device is not temperature sensitive and has no handling or storage requirements.  This is an excellent feature, since it is ready for use whenever the surgeon needs it,” said Bill Weber, vice president and General Manager, Integra Extremity Reconstruction.

This new system comes as great news for those suffering from hammertoe because it provides minimally invasive relief from that condition. If you are suffering from hammertoe, it is highly recommended to seek the care of a podiatrist, like Dr. Michael Stein of Foot Doctor of the East Bay. Dr. Stein will be able to diagnose your hammertoe condition, provide a consultation with you on the best course of action, and give you the best treatment options available that also work for you.

Hammertoe

Hammertoe is little-known a painful condition that affects the second, third and fourth toes involving different joints of the toe and foot. Hammertoe can be caused by many other conditions such as RA (rheumatoid arthritis), osteoarthritis, trauma or injuries to your foot, it can be hereditary and it can also be caused by a cerebral vascular accident. If you wear shoes that are too narrow or short for your feet, it may exacerbate any pain you already have.

It is really important to your overall well-being to seek out medical attention at the first signs of foot pain or anything that may hinder your ability to walk in a normal manner. Taking care of your feet is one of the first steps to being able to live a full and healthy life.
